1. The Silent Danger: Plumbing and Pipes

Thermal Fatigue: The risk doesn't end when the sun comes out. Pipes often burst when trapped water expands during a rapid thaw. Check for moisture stains on walls and ceilings.


Sump Pump: If your exterior discharge pipe is blocked by ice, the pump will burn out, and your basement will flood. Ensure the water has a clear path!


Exterior Faucets (Sillcocks): A forgotten hose can cause an internal freeze-break. As temperatures rise, water will flow directly into the interior of your wall.


Clogged Drains: Clear snow from the catch basins in front of your home. Meltwater that cannot reach the street will look for a way into your foundation.


2. Roofs and Facades: The Battle Against Ice
